Since the VU buffer runs on a single power rail it will have a power on voltage jump which will show as a large deflection on the meters pointer. Anyway what kind of rating should the meter have? Or change the 10uF cap shown below to uF to uF 16v. Joe, Which of your VU's bjffer/driver you are selling will fit in a 1 rack enclosure? Also the response is not at all linear, the meter acts like there's a threshold below which they don't move at all.

I've got a few questions: I measured audio AC at your buffer input. More expensive though than the Ebay one you have linked to. Will need to be 1watt type or better use ohm 1watt byffer/driver each wire to the lamp to spread the wasted heat better. A buffer amplifier and rectifier won't turn a cheap DC microammeter into a real VU meter.

Worked like a charm! Keep in mind that those VU meters are pretty small I have them.
