There are still too many variables, but it suggests some paths forward. But then we had no problems in the past to speak of either.
I was very pleased that the software was robust and coded to handle this scenario. Just keeping this forum moving. My club just purchased a TIMY2 for backup timing. I used this link for my XP laptop: But the problem is the same in Backup mode.

Membership Required We're sorry. Partially means that even the proximity of the big CC motors of the cable cars gave high noise on the wires, and every day we discovered something new that could easily block the communications.

It's working in my office. It's not a big stretch for a ski club to purchase four of these so that both timing and race office have equipment that's not clogged up with family email and pictures and is guaranteed to have the right drivers and software.
The oldest TIMY yet interfaced is from No worries -- problem solved. Wow, I had no idea there was so much history on this topic So, no setup required, just plug and play. Could this be the source of protection? If its any comfort. It the timer worked when not attached to the computer, I would suspect electrical noise between the Timy and your PC. We tried using optocoupling on inputs and outputs, HI-Q shielded USB cables max 2 ft and slge transformers for power. There's algr time appearing on the software window, only on the Timy.
Then I used a serial to USB converter. My personal experience is not to go 'el cheapo' on this connection: All was for roughly 10 bucks.
Dell is a great off lease machine too. In the Errors list: I went to the ALGE site and downloaded timy.

Hope this helps Chase. Anybody has an idea the solve the problem in Stopwatch or Backup mode? The original problems seem to be solved, but I agree that a serial connection would be always safer anyway.

So, the amplifier was no longer being used. Attitrash or Someday Bigger? Our experience has been less than fully successful.
